Primula veris, also known as primrose, a cultivated plant in the Netherlands, is a flowering plant from the Primulaceae family and used as an active substance in nutraceuticals and skin care products.
The young leaves can be eaten raw in salads or added to soups in the last 5 minutes. The taste is quite neutral, but the mouthfeel is pleasant! A tasty wine is made from the flowers!
There are plenty of medicinal properties, including the use in ADHD, against cough and bronchitis, as a sedative, and in external symptoms such as migraine, arthritis and osteoarthritis, bruises and bruising, sunburn, abrasions, insect bites, pimples and itching.
Many other varieties and species are also available, for example primula vulgaris, denticulata and sikkimensis. Each with their unique chemical composition.
