Applications of Oxalis:

The Wood Sorrel family or Oxalidaceae comprises around 1000 mostly herbaceous species, primarily found in America, Africa, and southern Asia.  The name of these plants indicates that they can produce oxalic acid. All Wood Sorrel species have a sour taste due to oxalic acid and, like field sorrel, have been and are used in salads. Oxalis extracts, derived from the Oxalis plant, are utilized in skincare products for their benefits. Oxalis is known for its various properties that can contribute to skin health.

  1. Antioxidant Properties: Oxalis extracts are rich in antioxidants, which help protect the skin from oxidative stress caused by free radicals. This aid in preventing premature aging and maintaining a youthful appearance.
  2. Brightening and Toning: Some formulations with Oxalis extracts have skin-brightening effects. These extracts help in reducing the appearance of dark spots and promoting an even skin tone.
  3. Hydration: Oxalis extracts contribute to skin hydration, assisting in maintaining moisture levels. This can be beneficial for individuals with dry or dehydrated skin.
  4. Soothing and Calming: The extract possesses soothing and calming properties, making it suitable for sensitive or irritated skin. It could help alleviate redness and discomfort.
  5. Collagen Support: Oxalis extracts play a role in supporting collagen production. Collagen is crucial for skin elasticity and firmness, and promoting its synthesis can contribute to overall skin health.
